A couple of weeks ago, I came upon a burrowing owl near Othello. When we first saw him he was lying prostrate on his belly with his tail up. Here is a link to a photo on Flickr...

He stayed like that for a while and then popped down to his burrow...

Does anyone have any idea why it was lying down like that?
