Ian,

Yes you can, but you have to enter bird sightings data from ALL your field
trips before it will accurately calculate your life list for different
areas. This is a problem if, like me, you have over 50 years of bird data,
most of which are not yet entered in eBird. So most of my "life lists", as
shown in eBird, are much less than my actual totals.

Alternatively, you can enter a "bogus" list for a country or state (i.e.,
enter a life list as if all the sightings were made in one place and on one
date), but then that list will be "invalid" in terms of the sightings
database, although it will show up in your personal listing totals.

eBird has worldwide coverage, and also lists provinces and states for most
countries, as well as counties or their equivalents in the US and Canada. It
will calculate your life lists for all of these areas for which data are
entered.
