I had business on Whidbey today so stopped by Deer Lagoon on my way up
the island. At 9 a.m. there were 8 WHIMBRELS, a number of BLACK-
BELLIED PLOVERS in various stages of molt, and quite a few WESTERN
SANDPIPERS. Seven of the Whimbrels were still there at 4 p.m. along
with a number of plovers. The sandpipers were gone.

I stopped to bird Crockett Lake about noon. It was interesting for the
complete absence of shorebirds. I did count 133 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS
just outside of Keystone Harbor. A very short walk in the woods at
Fort Casey yielded my first female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD of the year.
I've seen a number of males over the last month. There was also one
male WILSON'S WARBLER, and a number of GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS.
