Hello,

Saturday morning Fred Parent and I woke up just before dawn at Wanapum
State Park in Vantage with our first American White Pelican of the
year. We drove down to Ephrata WA and with directions from Matt
Yawney located and observed some GRASSHOPPER SPARROWs along the north
side of Beezley Hill. En-route we also saw two CHUKAR walking along a
rock pile. From there we drove to Othello stopping to see the
Burrowing Owls along Sutton Road we saw nothing much on the Para Ponds
and again at Potholes SP. Things got interested and we drove along
Rode E SE south from OSullivan Dam Rd where a lone LEWIS' WOODPECKER
landed on a phone pole right in front of us. What a pretty bird!
>From there we drove to county line ponds were we saw WILSON'S and
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE along with American Avocet, Black-Necked Stilt,
and other waterfowl. We birded Dodson and Frenchman Hills Rd where we
heard SORA and VIRGINA RAIL on our way back to I-90. Back in the
vantage area we saw a single LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE, SAGE SPARROW and SAGE
THRASHER along the old Vantage highway. Next up was a Birding along
Taneum Creek Road where we picked up several NASHVILLE WARBLER. In
Roslyn WA we saw several CASSIN FINCH in the trees next to feeders on
N 5th St. The day had gotten away from us so we drove back to Seattle
and ended the day at Discovery park to fill out our list with some sea
birds. We ended up with 103 species for the day and some lifers as
well. Had many easy misses and it seems spring is not totally in
swing in western WA yet. Looking forward to making it out there again
soon.
