Many thanks to everyone who responded to my question about the little yellow flowers disappearing from our hummingbird feeder. At this point, we are thinking either hairy woodpecker or flying squirrel. Who knows, maybe both! Hairy woodpeckers have used the hummingbird feeder, but we have never noticed a missing flower immediately afterwards. We will be more vigilant about checking as soon as the woodpecker leaves. The flowers seem to disappear overnight, so maybe it is a flying squirrel. That would be way cool!

We have never seen a starling or, unfortunately, an oriole in our yard. Downy woodpeckers only appear occasionally, usually in winter. We did once see a raccoon at the hummingbird feeder. He actually tipped it up and let the sugar water flow into his mouth - no damage to the feeder at all. There are plenty of deer but since the feeder is in a brushy area, the deer don't seem to go there.
