Tom Lamb is again receiving guests to view his hummingbirds in the evenings. They have just started arriving and it is still pretty cold up there. He suggested that the latter part of May would be better this year. Tom never asks, but I am asking that donations be left to pay the ladies to fill his feeders.
He indicated that he is unable to do it this year due to arthritis in his shoulders.
Tom lives 1 1/4 miles southeast of Dixie on Biscuit Ridge Rd. near Walla Walla. (Turn at the school).

Tom Mansfield and I birded eastern Clark County and Skamania County. Beginning the day at almost 4,000 feet in Clark County the cold temperature and snow being stuck on the one side of everything made it hard for the Sooty Grouse to becoming very vocal, which he or she finally did. This was on road L-1500. Dropping down in elevation on Road L-1400 we stopped where there was clearcuts on both sides of the road and were surprised to see a pair of Western Bluebirds. The Mute Swan was seen from Hwy 14 at Steigerwald NWR.

In Skamania County on Marble Road we had a House Wren and a Western Kingbird and just across the county line in Clark County another Western Kingbird. At Stevenson were 2 Caspian Terns. The Columbia River was high which made it difficult for finding waterfowl. In Underwood a pair of Lesser Goldfinches were seen along Cooper Ave. and going northwest up Cook-Underwood Road in an old clearcut with Vine Maples and young evergreens we had a Dusky Flycatcher. With a sprinkling of Western Tanagers, Black-headed Grosbeaks, and warblers here and there it made for a fun day of birding.
