This past weekend, Carl Haynie and I visited a variety of Kittitas County
hotspots. Our 2-day loop included, after a wake-up visit to Alki Beach,
stops at Hyak (Snoqualmie Pass), Bullfrog Road, Robinson Canyon, Hungry
Junction and other Kittitas roads, Reecer Canyon, Teanaway Campground,
Swauk Prairie, Umtanum Road and Wenas Creek, and the Cle Elum railroad
ponds. Beautiful weather, although quite windy Saturday evening with some
bone-chilling cold at the campground (overnight: 25 degrees!). Some
notables included:

Swainson's Hawk - along I-90 near Thorp
Sooty Grouse - 1 on Bullfrog Rd, 2 on the ridge above Robinson Canyon
Ruffed Grouse - 3 booming in separate locations around the Teanaway
Campground
Greater White-fronted Goose - over 150 in a field along Hungry Junction Rd
Calliope Hummingbird - visiting the feeders with Rufous Hummingbird at the
Mineral Springs Resort
Williamson's Sapsucker - a pair in the hills of Reecer Canyon
Lewis's Woodpecker - along Umtanum Rd
Townsend's Solitaire - in Robinson Canyon and in Wenas Campground (3)
Bullock's Oriole - along Umtanum Rd

For the weekend, 118 species.
