Here's a forward of the notice on Saturday's field trip at Columbia NWR. It
will be limited to about 15 if sign-ups come in quickly, or just one
van-full if everybody procrastinates. My chance to revisit the refuge where
I worked for nearly 20 years, but I don't think the birding spots have
changed in two. Never thought I'd say I miss the magpie!

Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day on Saturday, May 12, at Columbia
National Wildlife Refuge. Join biologists Randy Hill and Gordon Warrick for
a half to full day field trip exploring diverse habitats on and near the
refuge. You will likely see nesting owls and other birds of prey, curlews
and other shorebirds, waterfowl, marshbirds, and a variety of songbirds.
Meet at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Office at 7th and Main in Othello, WA.
Departure via van is at 7 a.m. Bring binoculars, lunch, drink, sunscreen
and hat, and comfortable clothing for warm or cool weather. Short hikes
