Last year I?photographed??an adult?bald eagle taking out a coot in a simlar manner at Lake Ballinger in Montlake Terrace.? I was standing on the fishing dock when the eagle approached from the south,?hovered over the lake like an osprey, then dove.??After landing on the water, the eagle?floated?for several seconds before powering up out of the water with?a dead coot in tow.??
I presume the purpose of the eagle floating on the water was to drown the coot.? It flew very low over the water with the coot to the?isolated secluded?east side of the lake.
?
Over the past three years I have?photographed the Edmonds eagles catching small shore birds, fish,?and crabs.? I also?photographed one flying up over Sunset Ave. with a gull.?? I don't know if it had actually caught the gull or merely scavanged a dead one from the beach. ?
