To the consternation of one of my neighbors, I don't remove dead or dying trees unless there is a safety issue.? Yesterday we were rewarded with the appearance of a pileated woodpecker in an old, dying hemlock.? We had been hearing the pileated woodpecker and seeing its work on the hemlock, but yesterday I spied it high up on the tree.?
