Saw quite a variety of shorebirds at several brief drive by's on Smith Island in the Snohomish River delta.

First I stopped briefly at the seasonal ponds along 12th street NE (just north of the Everett sewage ponds). Saw several Killdeer, and a few Dunlin at the first pond. At the last pond were 3 Lesser Yellowlegs, a few Western Sandpipers, and some other unidentified peep.

Feeling lucky I drove over to the Spencer Island bridge and I was lucky because a flock of 25 Whimbrel flew down low over the road to the bridge as I crept along in my truck. They circled around and landed out on Spencer , somewhere on the south end. A Whimbrel day is a good day!
