Hey tweets, The Fill was really hopping today, although that might
just be because I walked around with a good luck magnet, a new friend
I have made who has the power to draw birds like electromagnets draw
iron filings. In the course of a leisurely stroll of only 2 hours, we
found:

? a gorgeous pair of YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS showing off their gold/
ebony/ivory in the sunlight of Main Pond
? 2 Lycra-clad CEDAR WAXWINGS chasing bugs and each other in the curly
willow tree south of Main Pond
? a couple of OSPREYS calling and soaring overhead
? a Virginia Rail on SW Pond who decided that, unlike most of his ilk,
he would be a performer on stage, and so he perched on a low branch on
the edge of the pond and sang to us a mere 6 feet away (well, "sang"
is perhaps not the right word; "croaked" might be more accurate, but
his song was at least as musical as rap artists my kids sometimes
inflict on me)
? Wilson's Warblers everywhere
? singing Golden-crowned Sparrows still hanging around
? Cinnamon Teal pairs in every pond
? Pileated Woodpecker pounding a hole in a snag on SW Pond
? Brewer's Blackbirds with their beady pale eyes on guard at the
helipad, where the breeding colony is in full swing again

I could go on, but that would only delay you further in getting OUT
THERE today, tomorrow, and Sunday. Birds are coming through our state
right now, and there's no telling what might show up. Oh frabjous day.
