Yesterday, May 11, I spotted 2 pairs of Purple Martins at the "colony" by Everett's 10th street boatlauch, the first I've seen this season. One pair was perched on one of the nest boxes on a piling out in the middle of the bay, and another pair perched by the box nearest the NE corner of the parking lot. Unfortunately that nest box is about ready to fall off - just hanging by one nail. I guess the Martins were sitting there figuring out what to do about that problem. I know I was - maybe getting a pruning ladder out there at low tide would work.
