The 2012 official International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) theme is ?Helping Birds Every Day?. The Spokane Audubon Society and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Spokane District, invite you to help the birds by helping the BLM manage their habitat in the Hawk Creek area. Join us in celebrating Bird Day by participating in a morning of birding, followed by a picnic lunch.

The BLM is currently preparing a management plan for the Hawk Creek area, which is west of Davenport in Lincoln County, and information is needed regarding the bird communities in this area. Bird Day participants will be assigned to a team that will spend the morning birding a specific area at Hawk Creek, which includes several habitat types such as sagebrush-steppe, wetland, stream, ponderosa pine, and aspen. Novices are welcome; each team will have at least one experienced birder assigned to it. At end of the morning participants from all of the teams will meet to eat lunch and trade tales of the day?s birding adventures.

Transportation will be by carpool; participants will bring their own lunches. Departure time will be bright and early Saturday June 2nd, from the Spokane BLM office (1103 N Fancher Road) at 4:30 a.m. (sharp!), and we will return the same day no later than 2:30 p.m. Some items to bring along--binoculars, water, camera, rain gear, lunch, snacks, and sunscreen. Wear warm clothes and sturdy shoes.

To participate, contact Nancy Williams by May 22nd at (509)536-1281, or e-mail at: nwilliam at blm.gov as we will need to arrange transportation.

Hope to see you there!
