Subject: [Tweeters] Black-Throated Sparrow near Arlington

Tweeters,

I did some casual birding while attending a Eurovan Camper gathering this
past weekend on some private land (former farm/pasture) just NE of
Arlington. While most of my birding just drummed up the usual suspects, I
was observing some White-Crowned Sparrows along a gravel roadside, and a
completely unexpected sparrow popped into view. The fieldmarks were
unmistakable, though I initially doubted myself given the location of the
sighting - it was a BLACK-THROATED SPARROW. I searched my tweeters archive
and found a post from Gary Bletsch that indicated a Black-Throated Sparrow
was spotted in the same area last year. Same bird perhaps? Any other
sightings west of the cascades? Seemed pretty unusual to me...

I initially found the bird on Saturday afternoon, but sadly never resighted
it later in the day nor during several checks on Sunday.

May you all have equally interesting surprises this spring!
Happy Birding,
Fred Parent
