Decided last minute to help out 'ol Bob Saturday for May
Count before showing some out-of-state visitors the marine
birds, on Sunday. Migration has been late, but there
were some good birds around, especially Saturday.
Highlights as follows:

Gr. White-fronted Goose 15 (vicinity of Towne Rd 5/12)
Cinnamon Teal 3 (DRA-2, Kitchen Dick Ponds-1, 5/12)
Oldsquaw (LT Duck) 2 (Ediz Hook 5/13, getting late)
N. GOSHAWK 1 (ad male, vicinity of Bear Mt, along FS 28
going s.e. in direction of Bon Jon Pass, about 2200')

Whimbrel 45 (ploughed field Port Williams Rd then over
Graysmarsh 5/12)
Short-billed Dowitcher 5 (as previous)

5 alcid sp at Ediz Hook 5/13, best: TUFTED PUFFIN 1,
CASSIN'S AUKLET 2, Marbled Murrelet 12

CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD 1 female seen from 30 ft .7 mile
south of Dungeness Forks Campground 5/12, at rocky bald
overlook down on river far below; FS Rd 2880

Rufous Hummingbird throughout but lower numbers than
usual

Purple Martin 8 seen together at Three Crabs 5/13
Am. Pipit 3 (Port Williams Rd 5/12)
Cedar Waxwing 1 (edge of Graysmarsh 5/12)

Yellow Warblers several places, widespread arrivals

HERMIT WARBLER 1 (female, faint streaks right at shoulder
only, OK per Peterson's Warblers guide, p. 329; 1 mile
from Dungeness River trails confluence along 2880, within
1 mile of Tubal Cain Mine trailhead; associated with
two male Townsend's)

Hermit X Townsend's Warbler 4 (along 2880, includes
singing bird (heard only) singing Hermit song

Townsend's Warbler 21 (along 2880)
Dendroica, sp 13 (either Townsend's, Hermit, or hybrids,
heard-onlys along 2880)

Finished with 120 species for the weekend. Terrific
weather to be out looking, that was for sure.
