I've had some emails asking for clarification of the location of the Black-throated Sparrow at Discovery Park. The meadow is the meadow that has the trail down to north beach and a single viewing platform that doesn't really have a view. The bird was seen right at the end of the paved trail (road) leading to that meadow; this paved road has bathrooms to the east of it near an intersection that are no longer maintained or in use. Before the end of the paved road, the trail turns to the left, and right at the end of the paved road a social trail leads out into the meadow. When I first saw the bird, after a short while, it flew from the area at the end of the paved road to the vegetation triangulated by the paved trail, the social trail, and the trail that eventually turns to go down to north beach. When I circled around on these trails looking for where the bird landed, I found the bird again at the end of the paved road. I'm pretty sure it caught my eye
the first time when it flew up from the pavement to the vegetation at the end of the paved road. It was definitely flying up from the pavement the second time I saw it. It was a great-looking little bird, and a quite unexpected find.

Also among the 65 species seen this morning were my first-of-season Yellow Warblers (3) and Swainson's Thrush (1 seen, more heard), a male Evening Grosbeak, lots of Black-headed Grosbeaks and Western Tanagers, lots of Pacific-slope Flycatchers, and a Western Wood-pewee.
