Trumpeter swans are still with us, only a few, but worthy of note.
One injured swan has been observed in the Skagit Valley near the mouth of
Samish River and in the fields off Bayview Edison Road. It has an injured
foot/leg and does not seem to want to travel further. It is not yet
catchable but it is being observed by WDFW and others. If you see any sign
this bird is seriously in trouble please contact me.

Swan two is hanging out in Mud Lake, Skagit County the past few days. It is
being checked on tomorrow.

And the big news at Lake Terrell Wildlife Area near Ferndale: two of the
six trumpeter swan juveniles we released at the lake last September have
returned to the lake a few days ago. They did not seem to want to migrate
north with the rest of the flocks. Please keep a lookout when you are in
this area for any trumpeters, especially those wearing yellow collars.
These were juveniles released from a foster parent group we raised last
summer using a non-flying (injured) adult wild trumpeter female. She proved
to be a great mother and so it seems taught her charges well on skills for
living wild. The juveniles took their first flight at Lake Terrell in late
September.
