Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday May 17. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

A cruise ship about 50 miles off Oregon May 14 found a CRESTED AUKLET,
LAYSAN ALBATROSS, four HORNED PUFFINS, three SKUAS, an ASHY STORM-PETREL,
and a probably NEWELL?S SHEARWATER. On May 12 a male REDSTART was in the
Marshland area west of Clatskanie. A BLACKPOLL WARBLER was hear May 13 in
southwest Portland. On May 11 a BROAD-WINGED HAWK was over Calliope Crossing
north of Sisters. A bright CAPE MAY WARBLER was at Frenchglen May 12. On May
15 a BALTIMORE ORIOLE was south of Burns. A bright male INDIGO BUNTING was
seen May 16 near Fort Klamath.

CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS continue to be reported from western Oregon. Several
BLACK-THROATED SPARROWS were seen during the week in western Oregon. Spring
migrations are still heavy with over 2500 WHIMBREL in the fields about
Langlois, May 13, and about 124 WESTERN TANAGERS passing Coxcomb Hill in
Astoria May 12.

On May 13 two BLACK SWIFTS and a WHITE-THROATED SWIFT were at Bethel
Mountain in southern Coos County. A MOCKINGBIRD was at Winchester Bay May
15. A BREWER?S SPARROW was seen May 12 at the Heceta Head Lighthouse north
of Florence. On May 14 a FRANKLIN?S GULL and two HEERMANN?S GULLS passed
Boiler Bay. A YELLOW-BILLED LOON passed Cape Meares May 10. A GOLDEN EAGLE
was there May 13. A BLACK SWIFT was over Astoria May 13.

A BLACK TERN was at the Fernhill Wetlands May 12. Nine WHIMBREL were seen
May 11 at Baskett Slough NWR. On May 15 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was along the
Luckiamute River east of Helmick State Park south of Monmouth. On May 15 two
AVOCETS, 15 WHITE-FACED IBIS, and six WILSON?S PHALAROPES were at Fern Ridge
Reservoir.
