Adrian Wolf, a biologist with CNLM, was conducting bird surveys on JBLM
yesterday and called me to say he had seen a Black-throated Sparrow at his
survey site. I was working on the same prairie today and he called me again
to say that he had relocated it, so I naturally went over to check it out.
It was a very bright male but it looked very out of context in the flowering
Scot's broom.

Another interesting bird we both saw at the same location was an adult
Arctic Horned Lark subspecies, mixed in with several Pacific Northwest
Horned Larks (AKA the Streaked Horned Lark). The Arctic subspecies had been
reported before in recent years at the same location. Several Oregon Vesper
Sparrows and Western Meadowlarks also sang nearby.

Unfortunately, the Training Area is closed until mid-July.
