The goldfinch returned to Cinebar on the 11th, but what is puzzling me is
that they are spending their time on the platform feeders with black oil
sunflower seeds in the shell and not visiting the three tube feeders
full of thistle! So far, there are only two pair although there have
been four pair for the past several years.

The band-tailed pigeon are here, too. Today when I came home in the
middle of the afternoon, there were 30 of them around my house--on the
feeders, the ground, the bird bath, and the trees! Thirty that I was
able to count, that is.

Also new today was a Black-headed Grosbeak, and the multitudes of Evening
Grosbeak are still here, too.

Lately, I have been seeing a hummingbird--unusual for me to see on my
property--notice I do not say they were not here, but I have not seen
them.

Recently, I added ground feeders, filled with millet, but I see the deer
feeding in them as much as the birds, so I may go back to sprinkling the
millet on the ground. I have never seen a deer eat it.
