Our?downtown?birds are getting quite aggressive in defending their territories against perceived threats from their fellow feathered colleages and a definite pecking order has developed.??? The red-winged blackbirds peck on the crows, the crows peck on the gulls, and all three peck on the eagles.??

The eagles don't seem to peck on anyone although I did see one Thursday chase an osprey out in the Sound in order to steal its fish.?? The osprey ended up dropping the fish and the ?eagle plucked it out of?mid air, then returned to the piling by the Edmonds ferry to eat it?.

I have to retract my "sightings" of the?Virginia rails earlier in the week.? Close examination of my photos revealed the bird was a starling, not a rail.? I continue to hear the rails calling, especially around sunset, I just have not been able to see them. ????
