A flock of about 10 male and female Red Crossbills actively feasted on pine seeds Friday afternoon on Beeson Street near Sequim. They worked the heavily-coned, windbreak pines thoroughly for about an hour and seemed at ease with me working in the yard close by. Very efficient seed extractors! A good number of chestnut-backed chickadees were also active in the same trees during this time.
