We took the opportunity to do our Birdathon over the weekend, covering
the Cle Elum ponds, Umptanum Rd. and the Wenas Creek Campground.

In the interest of answering some other birders' questions about the
level of the creek and the difficulty crossing it, I'm happy to report
that the road, although very rough and rocky, is the most passable
I've seen it in ages for this time of year. The water level on the
road was minimal; muddiness not a problem, either.

Although it was nice to tally 95 species, we enjoyed simply watching
the bird activity. Lots of courtship, mating, nest-building, and
feeding of young going on out there. We had excellent scope views of
a Western Wood-Pewee carefully constructing a nice home for its future
peewee Pewees.

Also, I'm happy to report that we saw 7 woodpecker species.
