Hi Tweets,
As a follow-up to Dave Hutchinson's post (Hi Dave)...as he said we didn't find any nesting Terns on the many flat rooftops in the Interbay area at the western base of Queen Anne Hill, scoping mostly northeast from the Magnolia Bridge...though after trying with Dave there I also scoped from several spots on the east side of Magnolia and to the north near Fisherman's Terminal...to no avail. But what got me to thinking there might be Caspian Terns nesting somewhere in the Elliott Bay area was rather from a trip I took on the foot ferry from downtown to West Seattle, where in June perhaps 4 years ago I saw many Caspian Terns flying overhead to the southeast heading towards the Duwamish with fish in their bills and returning without fish. So I visited the Duwamish a couple of times as a result, scoping from several ground-level spots and then again a couple of times from above the West Seattle Bridge/freeway area where it curves up hill to West Seattle, facing east-northeast, fairly high above the Duwamish head (more or less overlooking the shipping/industrial zone, with the one-time Todd Shipyards to the northeast). There are many industrial roofs here too, like at the Interbay area, and many had lounging and a few nesting Glaucus-winged Gulls, but I never did find any nesting Caspian Terns...though I still suspect that they are nesting somewhere nearby.
