It was a cloudy, rainy day up on the Iron Goat Trail on highway 2. We hiked
up the scenic trailhead and then went south a bit. From one of the valley
overlooks there was a turkey vulture perched below us in a small alder. It
looked very out of place, a huge black bird on a small tree in an odd place
at the edge of some avalanche debris. Maybe something dead under all the
junk? On a more cheerful note, there were orange crowned warblers singing.
