Thanks to some great Tweeters reports from Ann Marie Wood and Michael
Willison I was inspired to make my way to Eide Road in Stanwood from San
Juan Island. While I didn't see the bobolink, I did find the Wilson's
phalarope along with two short-billed dowitchers and a pair of cinnamon
teal in the pond to the southwest of the parking area. In all the
shrubby trees along the beginning of the road where the bobolink had
reportedly been seen, there were cedar waxwings, yellow warblers, and
western tanagers. A little further along the road I was also surprised
to find FOUR western kingbirds! It was a very pleasant hour spent there
in the warm Friday afternoon weather, resulting in 25 species seen.
Good birding,
