hi all ... after reading Ken and Randy's posting --- and noticing the
sun had come out --- Gene and I headed up to Woodland Bottoms to look
for the Whimbrels ... we got to the Caples/Dike Road corner about
4:15 ... at first found one Whimbrel ... then spotted another ... and
then another ... we ended up with a count of 14 ... HOWEVER about
5:00 a Bald Eagle circled the field and a flock of OVER 30 WHIMBRELS
fled !!!!!!!!!!! ... they obviously were all there in the field only
we never spotted them ... last seen they were heading east (inland)
... we drove around for another hour checking other fields and just
driving the roads but never found them again ... also present at the
Caples/Dike corner were six Bonaparte Gulls in NON-breeding plumage,
about a dozen Gull sorts, and around 20 Caspian Terns ...

mammal of interest --- sealion in the Lewis River ...

later,
Lyn
