About an hour ago (9:45 a.m.) a flock of Red Crossbills had a quick snack on Douglas Fir seeds in a bountiful cone crop at the top of several trees in mine and my neighbor's yard - key characteristic for us was the unusual metallic 'finch' sounds. There were very red males and yellowish females - maybe a dozen or so. They only combed the cones and graced the area for about 10 min. and then they moved on. Hope they come back!
