Hello All,
Visited the Paton's yard yesterday (May 28, Pategonia AZ); not the best
time of the day (midday and early afternoon-hot high 90's,) but, a nice mix
of birds. Be aware that the Paton family now has the property up for
sale. An interim caretaker is living there and maintaining the
bird-feeders enough for visiting birders to continue surveys. Until the
property is sold, the yard is still open daily with the registry book
maintained and the sugar water donation box.

Three species of hummingbirds, two exotics and one resident: Broadbilled,
Violet-crowned (rare but regular here now) and resident Black-chinned,
males and females.

A sampling of other birds:
Hoards of White-winged doves, House finches and Lesser goldfinches. Blue
Grosbeak, N Cardinal male and female, Gila woodpecker, Abert's towhee,
Brown-headed cowbird, and a scramble of Gambel's Quail.

My fellow travelers from Tucson are not birders, as such, but, wanted some
photographs of hummers. It was a good 35 min visit. This is my 8th time
to visit the Paton's yard since the mid-late 1990's. Was lucky to meet
both the Paton's years ago before they passed on (Mr Paton in the early
2000's? and Marion in 2009.) What generous people to establish such a
marvelous resource for birds, local wildlife, and us watchers!

Observing always,
Maureen E Ellis
