Monday morning Les Carlson and I stopped to check the muddy fields along Dike Rd. and Caples Rd. intersection and could not locate any Whimbrels. The farmers had a large tire-manure spreader unloading barn yard waste onto the field and naturally had scared off all the birds except a couple of Bank Swallows. 5 hours later we checked the muddy fields again and after 10 mins. located 3 Whimbrel feeding on whatever the farmer had spread. This was in the taller light brown grass on the east side of the muddy field. The Whimbrels were hard to see as they could hide in the tall grass. Hopefully a few will stick around for the local birders who happen to be out of town.
