Hey tweets, as an opera-lover I have my favorites: Luciano Pavarotti
singing the most lyrical aria ever composed (IMHO), "Una Furtiva
Lagrima" from L'elisir d'amore; Juan Diego Florez singing nine
glorious high C's in "A mes amis" from La Fille du Regiment; Pavarotti
and Sutherland singing their poignant duet, "Parigi, o cara" from La
Traviata, an aria that can make grown women weep; and my very favorite
of all time, "FITZ-bew!" courtesy of the little Willow Flycatcher who
arrived from South America today and appeared on stage at Main Pond,
Montlake Fill.
It's always such a treat to hear the maestro sing, but today was
really special, for today, he sang pianissimo. I've never heard this
aria performed so softly, nor so magnificently, with vibrato I never
knew was possible, creating notes within notes. Overhead, a silver
streamer of incandescent cloud blazed across the blue sky, lit by the
sun. Could any stage be more beautiful, any performance more perfect?
