After being alerted by Tom Mansfield, I headed for Doetsch Pond (between Skamania Landing and Beacon Rock State Park)where there was one SNOW GOOSE in with a flock of Cackling Geese. Snow Geese are a Code 4 species in Skamania County and only my fourth record in thirty-five years. The newly created pond adjoining Doetsch Pond had one GREATER YELLOWLEGS (another code 4 species) on the muddy shore for my latest record in the county by three days. Among the several hundred TUNDRA SWANS visible from the Franz Lake NWR overlook on Highway 14, I picked out a family of TRUMPETER SWANS (code 4) that I had first heard calling. And the WHITE-THROATED SPARROW continues at our feeders on Mt. Pleasant.
