I stepped out on the front porch late Sunday afternoon to a sweet chorus of
Golden-Crowned Kinglets tseee tseee tseee-ing their way through the trees.
The binoculars gave me spectacular views. Three Flickers seemed to be
playing tag with each other in the Douglas Firs. Robins whinnied by as well.
Three Western Scrub Jays elbowed their way past two Steller's Jays for the
in-shell peanuts I tossed off the porch.

In the back yard, among the Dark-eyed Juncos, a tiny brown visitor with a
buffy eyebrow and short tail was picking up pieces of cracked sunflower
kernels. It was the first Pacific Wren we've seen since buying the property
this spring.

On Saturday, we saw six Tundra Swans flying over Kelso.
