Hi All: Monday morning (5 Nov) there was a light adult parasitic jaeger zooming around and through the feeding Bonaparte's gulls viewed from the Dalco overlook. I watched the acrobatics for 15 mins as it chased Bonaparte's that attempted avoid pursuit. This is the first one I've seen this year although tides and the commute have not been cooperative. High tide was 10:46 and I was there from 8:15-9. Tuesday high tide was 11:30 and I was there from 10:30-11:00. Then Bonaparte's flock was sparse, only about 500 birds, but with one Franklin's gull. As I was scoping for a other gulls or jaegers, an ancient murrelet crashed landed, dove, surfaced long enough for me to zoom in, but not long enough to get the camera mounted, then disappeared.
There was a Franklin's gull last week in the Bony's flocks and one adult Heermann's on the water Monday. Two adult Heermann's have been roosting on the old Tahlequah dock on Vashon over the past week.Gary Shugart, Slater Museum of Natural History, University of Puget Sound, Tacoma & Vashon Island
