A good day in Neah Bay, Clallam Co., WA with fellow Sequimite(!) Michael
Barry. We saw two Snow Buntings on the Boom Rd. Jetty in Neah Bay. Also
present there were 5 Brown Pelicans, one Eurasian Wigeon, several
White-winged Scoters, plus many other ducks, loons, grebes, cormorants,
shorebirds including a half-dozen Black Turnstones, and gulls, one of which
(immature Glaucous-winged Gull?), had a dart or other projectile sticking
out of its wing. The gull was desperately trying to remove it to no avail.
I curse the individual who did that to that gull. At Hobuck Beach, we had a
Bonaparte's Gull among the many "Olympic", Mew, Herring, Ring-billed,
California & probable Thayers Gulls. Also seen were 5 Black Oystercatchers,
2 Northern Shrikes, 17 Greater White-fronted Geese and about 30 or so Red
Crossbills plus the "usual" passerines, etc. No love on the recent Tropical
Kingbird nor Clay-colored Sparrow. The weather was a factor for most of the
day.
