From: Gary Slater - glslater at ecoinst.org

This fall Ecostudies Institute and Washington Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
will be coordinating a citizen science shorebird monitoring effort in North
Puget Sound (Port Susan, Skagit, Padilla, and Samish Bays). This program is
part of a large scale, flyway-wide shorebird monitoring called the Pacific
Flyway Shorebird Survey or Migratory Shorebird Project.

Volunteers who are interested in participating in the survey need to attend
one training event. We have scheduled 2 training events next week at Padilla
Bay Interpretive Center, 10441 Bayview-Edison Road Mount Vernon, WA 9827.
Training classes will be on Wed. Nov 14th and Thur. the 15th; each will run
from 7:00 to 9:00 PM

At the training, we will review the protocol, data sheet, counting
techniques, and data entry. We also will assign survey sites and dates.

There are 3 survey dates. Each survey is conducted during a 3-hour window
that straddles high tide.
1) Sat, Nov 24th, High tide: 1:51 PM, survey period 12:20 - 3:10 PM.
2) Sat Dec. 8th, High tide:12:00 PM, survey period 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
3) Sun Dec 9th, High tide: 12:40, survey period 11:10 AM to 2:10 PM.

A more detailed explanation of the effort is on our web page at:
