Roger Hunt, Michael, Becky and I had 19 TRSWs on Brady Lp Rd this pm coming
back from our visit to get the Northern Wheatear for the 3 of them (& drier
looks for me). We dipped on the NOWH, but had an immature Northern Shrine
from the parking lot and a Hermit Thrush on our way back to the car. Not a
lot of passerine activity at Westhaven in the chilly start to the day, but
it warmed up and gave us some really nice weather out there. 3 Grebes at
Tokeland. Western, Horned & 2 Red-necked, one of which was still molting
from alternate, confusing us a bit. Willets were apparently hanging out
somewhere else. We did get HD (Hovering Delight) views of the first of two
Belted Kingfishers seen. The 2nd one was a flyover at Bottle Beach. Also
there at BB, a couple of non-birders said that they had just seen a 'white
Heron' in a puddle by the road in Westport, near the YMCA. The wife had
told.her husband he 'was crazy', no white herons like that. We let them
know that they had possibly seen a Great Egret, that a few had occasionally
been seen in the Elk River Estuary.
OK, running on too much, it was a fun day with good birding companions and
we got Roger back to the Park N Ride on time!
