Hi Tweeters,

Today (11/10/12) I birder Cowlitz County with John Hebert and MaryFrances
Mathis in pleasant if a bit chilly conditions. Some highlights included the
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK across from the county park at Willow Grove. There were
two RUDDY DUCKS and a SPOTTED SANDPIPER at the Longview STP. At the Mint
Farm a VIRGINIA RAIL responded to playback and we flushed a couple WILSON'S
SNIPE.

Our morning stop to try for the Swamp Sparrow on Tradewinds Road we found a
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK harassing the sparrow flock and on an afternoon stop we
again dipped on our target. The Port of Kalama North Property held 2 HORNED
LARKS and 10 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS. We found a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER along
Sportmans Club Drive and a WESTERN GULL in the gull roost at the road's
end.

The estimated 2000 SANDHILL CRANES in the Woodland Bottoms were quite
impressive. We also enjoyed a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at the end of Guild Road
and a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW in the cottonwoods just north of the heavy
equipment training area.
