Hello Tweeters & Inland NW Birders -

An updated version of the 2012 county year list project is available at the Washington Birder website. We've received updates from most of the counties with details for birds seen this year though the end of October. County compilers, especially for the underbirded counties, would appreciate receiving reports of any birds seen in their counties (A list of compilers is available at the link, below).

Totals continue to generally track higher than last year -- The year totals for this update are, with last year's corresponding end-Aug totals in [brackets]: West WA 363 [352], East WA 320 [315], Statewide WA 394 [385]. As with the last update, 29 of our 39 counties have reported more species than last year at this same point.

26 counties have already broken the 200 species count for their year list [with another 4 almost there], and all counties have tallied over 150 species on the year.

66 species have been seen in all 39 counties so far this year.

If you'd like to take a look at where things stand, the list and many other interesting files are at the Washington Birder website:

I encourage you to take a look at the counties where you have birded to see whether you can email a compiler and help 'plug' a hole or two.

Thanks to all the compilers and all those pitching in to sketch a picture of another year's birds in WA.
