Tweeters: The jog today reminded me that I neglected to report a LAPLAND LONGSPUR that I flushed off the main gravel trail through the south meadow of Discovery Park in Seattle, last Friday. I did not have binocs or my glasses on, but the bird was on the path just 15-20 ft away when I flushed it. It went into the grass on the north side, and I got close enough to see some details (including a tinge of rufous in the nape and facial markings) that led me to think winter-plumaged adult Lapland. I wasn't sure, however, until the bird took off, when it made the clear rattle and the little "tew" note afterward. Scott AtkinsonLake Stevensmail to: scottratkinson at hotmail.com
