The Ocean Shores Snowy's were featured on the Northwest News Network this morning. ?They mentioned 4. ?The pictures appeared to be around the little pond on the way out to the point. ?Thanks to everyone who answered my Ridgefield question. ?The weather was so bad I didn't make it today. ?Next weekend is a hopeful. ?

I may have?indoctrinated a new birder this weekend. ?My oldest friend, who I grew up with but haven't seen in 30 years, visited this weekend and of course we went birding. ?He was with me at the Luhr's Beach Nature Center and saw the owls yesterday then we walked around the old boardwalk in the rain at Nisqually. ?Anybody who stays interested enough to walk an hour in the cold NW rain and thinks it actually fun?is a good prospect, right?

Today we had lunch at the Hearth Fire at North Point here in Olympia which overlooks the mud flats where the long billed Curlew was seen and did our birding from the warm inside. ?Buffleheads, Common?Mergansers,??Olympic, GW, and Ringed Billed Gulls, Crows and one GB?Heron?were seen. ?Most interesting was a male Bufflehead diving in clear shallow water right outside the window and watching him swim around underwater searching for his lunch as we ate ours. Don was delighted and nibbling at the hook. ?We'll see if it sets. ?

The Nature Center hours are Wed, Sat, Sun 12-4PM. ?The director lives nearby and says he is sometimes there at other times. ?He has always invited me in when he has seen me setting up. ?
