It seemed possible with the high winds last night and high tide today that something out-of-the-ordinary might show up, so I looked over spots around PA this afternoon. Sure enough, among Dunlins and Black-bellied Plovers on the log breakwater at the tip of Ediz Hook, was a single, sleeping Rock Sandpiper. I took a few distant pics of it, head tucked; the coloring was noticeably grayer with a more speckled breast than the similarly sized Dunlins around it. It did once briefly look around and I could see the long bi-colored, down-curved bill, then a low helicopter spooked the flock and it was gone.....
