Hi Tweeters,

I decided to do some birding in Pacific County today primarily
targeting storm driven Red Phalaropes, of which I wa able to find none. It
was a fine day of birding anyway. Wading around at Midway Beach I flushed
an AMERICAN BITTERN.

At MP 52 on US 101 south of South Bend there were 3 TUNDRA SWANS. A bit
farther south where Giles Lane intersects 101 I counted 86 SNOW GEESE as
well as 15 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE. The pastureland here was full of a
variety of ducks, geese and shorebirds that were fun to check out, but I
came up with no rarities.

Late in the afternoon there were two NORTHERN SHRIKES on Chinook Dike Road
in the first 0.1 mile from Chinook Valley Road. This seems to be a good
spot for this species as I have seen them here in past winters.

The last bird of the day was a VIRGINIA RAIL flying in front of my car on
the street into the hatchery in the town of Chinook.
