My daughters Clare and Alison Brown are in Seattle for the holiday, and we
spent an enjoyable couple of hours birding together in Discovery Park
yesterday afternoon, 11/27. We saw a selection of the usual birds, with a
few less common ones mixed in.



On the water north of West Point, there were several COMMON MERGANSERS in
addition to the expected Red-breasted Mergansers. There was a fair number
of birds out there, including a lot of Horned Grebes and a few Red-necked
Grebes, but we didn't see a single Western Grebe.



Around the conifers right next to the South Parking Lot, we found a nice
mixed flock of sparrows including Golden-crowned, Song and Fox, as well as
two LINCOLN'S SPARROWS and one WHITE-THROATED SPARROW. Also near the South
Parking Lot, a flock of RED CROSSBILLS flew over us. We only saw one Varied
Thrush, on the entrance road to the parking lot, possibly because the
madrones don't seem to have many berries.
