Two of us from the Port Townsend/Sequim, WA looked for the bird on
Wednesday and again today, Thursday in the torrential rains, high winds and
c-o-l-d weather. We were unsuccessful as were birders we met from Georgia,
Florida, Colorado, Texas, Indiana, Washington, etc. The fields where the
wagtail had been seen were flooded up to a foot deep in water in parts,
including most of the lane leading from the chain all the way back to the
piles of wood/debris today. We had to settle for the Harris's Sparrow and a
really cool leucistic Fox Sparrow at Hyacinth Park in Saanich. Has anyone
seen the latter? I tried for a photo of the leucistic Fox Sparrow but was
unsuccessful. I did get a few grabs of the Harris's Sparrow if anyone is
interested. At the Victoria Harbour, while waiting for the ferry to take us
back to back to Port Angeles at about 4:00PM, we saw up to 15 Brown
Pelicans, a Mute Swan, three Rhinoceros Auklets, a Brandt's Cormorant,
several Black Oystercatchers (on harbour rocks going out), a half-dozen
Bonaparte's Gulls, Hooded & Red-breaster Mergansers, Bufflehead, Common
Goldeneye and other more common birds.
