I thought?my avian highpoint of Tuesday (10/2) was going to be photographing a male and female pileated woodpecker pair in Yost Park, but?something bigger was in store for me later in the afternoon.
?
Earlier in the day I had told several people?that?our local eagles were not due back for another two weeks because?in both 2010 and 2011, the first eagle of the season had?appeared like clockwork on the raptor tree at the fish hatchery grounds on Oct. 15th.????Apparently eagles don't read calendars? and/or they wanted to make a liar out of me, as the Pt. Edwards pair returned Tuesday (10/2),?nearly two weeks ahead of schedule.??Last year?one of the pair returned?a few weeks before the other, but?this year?they have both?returned together.
?
I have been photographing the Pt. Edwards pair for several years, so my son and I spent the?afternoon locating and photographing them at their known?hangouts at the marina and Pt. Edwards.
