Barrow's, as are most waterfowl, are often kept in captivity.?S. Dillon Ripley's book on keeping waterfowl even had instructions?(for back then) for ordering eggs from Barrow's Iceland.?Odd that something like a Barnacle Goose shows in WA and it is assumed to be an escapee while that idea isn't high on the list here.?

According to an old small field guide I have, left over from my G.I. in Germany years, Barrow's Goldeneye are resident in Iceland. It says they are rarely seen away from there. Maybe birders don't look for them closely.

Greetings from North Carolina.? I thought you all may be able to help identify whether the little guy (girl) I saw on the Salzach River in Salzburg , Austria last week is a female/juvenile Barrow's Goldeneye .? We don't have them here in NC but reading online , it seems you do.? How far from home was this lone bird?
