Tweeters,

Jay Withgott, excellent Portland birder and Western Field Ornithologists
member, posted this to OBOL earlier this week and I wanted to let
tweeterland know about since this is the first communication about next
year's joint WFO-WOS meeting in Olympia next August.

The Western Field Ornithologists conference in Petaluma, Calif., this past
week was a huge success and a wonderful experience, with record attendance.
Birders there were rewarded with good shorebirding, excellent pelagic
trips, vagrant passerines at Point Reyes, the Pacific Ocean's first
Northern Gannet, and the Common Cuckoo just 3 hours south in Watsonville.

Shawneen Finnegan, Dave Irons, and I were (I think??) the only Oregonians
there, but it was fun bumping into Dan and Anne Heyerly at the Cuckoo spot
(on their way home from a long & productive trip)!

For those interested, here are a few videos of two star birds of the week:

The Cuckoo:

Connecticut Warbler & Ovenbird at Pt. Reyes:

And for your planning purposes .... NEXT year's WFO conference will be
close to home: In Olympia, Washington, just a short drive up I-5. The
conference will be 22-25 August, 2013 -- a joint conference with Washington
Ornithological Society (WOS) and hosted by Black HIlls Audubon Society.
Make a note on your calendars now, and information will be forthcoming in
early 2013.
