Dear Tweeters,
?
I am not certain, but last week I think I saw some American Crows doing what some crows in Japan are said to do.
?
?I watched one crow drop a walnut onto a roadway,?then fly off and land on the lawn of the cemetery nearby. A moment later,?another crow flew over to the same stretch of road where the first crow had dropped a nut, and proceeded?to eat?a nut that was lying on the same roadway. That nut was already smashed open, and had almost cerainly been crushed by a passing car, as it appeared to be too flattened to have simply been cracked open by a crow's bill.
?
Unfortunately, I had to go to work, and could not tarry to make further observations.
?
The location where I observed this is in the little town of Lyman (Skagit County). The spot where the crows were doing this is between the little town park and the cemetery across the street.
?
Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
